Because most of the choreography in Bak Jaebeom’s songs are quite difficult to master for even those who dance, I was worried that our team members had no prior dance experience and considered we choose a different artist. In addition, I also thought that choosing a group artist rather than a solo artist was suitable for equal participation in a team project. Although there were differences in opinions among team members in the beginning, I believe we have achieved the best we can in a short period of time because we were able to respect each other and mediate complications.
When planning for the cover, I wondered what was better: to feature teamwork which highlights each character despite imperfections or to hide some of the weaknesses and feature the strengths. However, for a K-pop entertainment company, covering up weak points and producing the most “complete” result is what they would define a successful management. Pleasing the consumer is essentially their top priority. For that reason, we edited the project concerning the song length and the difficulty of choreography.
For this cover, I wanted to be in charge of filming and editing as they are my specialty and major. Nonetheless, I thought it was important to share roles among each team members for a fluid teamwork and I was satisfied with participating in dancing. Considering the time we had left after completion, I wanted to retake or re-edit some parts, but it leaves something to be desired. This made me realize that artists and contributors constantly exchange opinions, suggest new ideas, make revisions to their corrections in order to pursue the perfect result until the best comes out. Moreover, I learned tremendous amounts of time and effort is needed and involved behind every artists’ work.
Their dedication put into their works is not only for commercial profit but also for fans who support and anticipate them. Fans also help to support and promote their artists by purchasing their music products and uploading cover, reaction, and tutorial videos. I think this interaction between fans and artists will continually stimulate and progress the K-pop industry.
